Built in 2001 as a part of the great sports complex Aarhus Atletion the arena was the venue in which the Danish women’s team in 2002 won the gold medal at the European Championship by beating Norway in the final.

At this event the beautiful architecture of the building came to its right providing a tremendous atmosphere for both athletes and a capacity crowd.

Since 2002 NRGi Arena among many other spectacular events has hosted the European Championship in table tennis in 2005, the World Championship in gymnastics 2006 the world famous equestrian show Apassionata, lectures by Bill Clinton and Cofi Annan and the Danish Song Contest.

At the EURO 2010 in women’s handball NRGi Arena was one of three Danish venues at a few weeks later it hosted yet another great handball event as Danish handball’s Final 4 was played here – with semifinals in the men’s cup competition on December 27th 2010 and cup finals for both men and women on the following day.
